Dear Readers
A TOUCH OF PASSION is releasing this month on 24 March. Book #3 in my Disgraced Lords series. Great title when you think about it (thank you Sue Grimshaw, my editor at Random House Loveswept), because passion drives all of us.
I love this quote from one of my all time favorite TV writers – Joss Whedon (Buffy, Angel, Firefly etc)
āPassion. It lies in all of us. Sleeping… waiting… and though unwanted, unbidden, it will stir… open its jaws and howl. It speaks to us… guides us. Passion rules us all. And we obey. What other choice do we have? Passion is the source of our finest moments. The joy of love… the clarity of hatred… the ecstasy of grief. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion, maybe we’d know some kind of peace. But we would be hollow. Empty rooms, shuttered and dank. Without passion, we’d be truly dead.ā
ā Joss Whedon
WOW – so powerful and so very true!
In A TOUCH OF PASSION, the character who is driven by passion is my heroine, Lady Portia Flagstaff. Sheās filled to her bonnet with passion. She almost died when she was sixteen, and sheās determined to embrace all that life has to offer, societyās norms be damned. And whom she really wants to embrace is my hero, Grayson Devlin, Viscount Blackwood. However, to her consternation, Grayson, having grown up in her familyās household, views Portia as nothing more than a younger sister. That is, until one fateful night at a Cyprian’s ball….Here is a touch of passion arising when Grayson suddenly seeās Portia as a woman:
Portia tried to move. āYou can let me go now. Iām sure the ladies are waiting for you.ā
His eyes smiled into hers. āThat almost sounds like jealousy.ā
Of course it did. She was jealous, but she was not about to let him know that. āDonāt be ridiculous. If you remember, I left as soon as you arrived. Why would I be jealous?ā
āSo, youāre saying youāre unaffected by me?ā
What game was he playing? Portia found her gaze riveted on Graysonās lips, watching them move, wondering what they would feel like. She shook her head. What had he asked?
āOf course Iām not jealous. Not every woman wants to fall into your bed.ā
āLiar. I can feel your heart pounding in your chest.ā
āWe were almost caught by my brother. He does allow me more leeway than most men, but dressed like this, in your arms . . . There would have been consequences.ā
He reached up and slid his fingers behind her nape, and her breathing faltered as she watched his lips draw nearer. āSo if I were to kiss you, youād feel nothing?ā
He didnāt allow her to reply but drew her mouth up to meet his. He permitted his lips, soft and firm at the same time, to play over hers like a maestro. Liquid heat washed over her, making her light-headed. She was losing herself in his kiss. She wanted to experience everything his kiss had to offer, and never leave his embrace.
