Next Big Thing Blog Tag
19 December 2012

tag logoIt’s Tag time. This is such fun because you end up meeting loads of new authors.

I’ve been tagged by Michele de Winton, The Boss and Her Billionaire fame, and fellow Kiwi and Indulgence author. The rules of the game - answer a list of questions about your current WIP and enjoy sharing the love. What fun!

What is your working title of your book?

The Nanny Trap and Invitation to Passion. I always work on two books at the same time.

Where did the idea come from for the book?

My editor at Entangled asked for a nanny story so who was I to argue! And Invitation to Passion is book three in my Kensington Brava Regency romance Invitation To series.

For the Nanny Trap I decided to have some fun and make a hot shot million have to move home to small town Colorado and take on the PTA and bored housewives.

Invitation to Passion answers the final questions in book two, Invitation to Scandal and deals with the villain who escaped.

What genre does your book fall under?

The Nanny Trap is a contemporary romance, and Invitation to Passion is Regency historical.

alexoloughlinWhich actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

The Nanny Trap – it would be Alex O'Loughlin – tall, dark and very handsome! And he’s from down under.

Invitation to Passion – Ryan Gosling. He has the right mix of hotness and sensitivity.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

The Nanny Trap – Ex-lovers with a load of hurt and betrayal have to move in together in order to care for a child.

Invitation to Passion – Best-friends who are left no choice but to marry have to travel the rocky path from friends to lovers with a deadly enemy blocking them along the way.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?ryangosling

All fingers and toes crossed The Nanny Trap will come out with Entangled Publishing to follow the last one, The Reluctant Wife, due out any day now…

Invitation to Passion is being self-published.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

Still going! Each book takes around 3 months.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

A Holiday Affair by Annie Seaton perhaps, and of course, The Boss and Her Billionaire by Michele de Winton and then my first contemporary romance, The Reluctant Wife.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?

It’s very personal to me – you’ll have to read the book to understand why. It would spoil the book if I told you.

What else about your book might pique the reader's interest?

How about an excerpt?

Stacey took a deep breath. “I came to see Hayley if you must know. She texted me asking me to come.”

Tyler’s frown deepened. “Texted?”

“I took her to dance class every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. She has all my contact details. Kids her age know their way around smartphones better than a blind man reads Braille.”

“Whose phone does she have?”

“She has her own phone. I gave it to her for emergencies. The bill comes to me.” He remained tight lipped. “It would appear she has an emergency. She hates it here.”

Speaking of hate... Tyler’s eyes couldn’t be more expressive. She wished she could say he didn’t affect her at all but she couldn’t. The wall of sheer animal charisma standing in front of her made her pulse race. He was male in the most primal sense of the word. With her eyes closed she could smell the testosterone, and underneath, the faint hint of some expensive masculine cologne, which flared her nostrils, increasing her awareness of the blatant sexuality humming around the small room.

A room with a bed.

Stacey inwardly cursed her weakness. Her nipples pinched tight beneath her bra and she went rigid, deeply disconcerted by her pronounced reaction to the sexual charge emanating from Tyler.

She sighed. “Hayley’s world has turned upside down. She’s frightened of a new home, a new city and people she doesn’t know. Now she tells me Mrs. Clark is leaving next week and you’re parading nannies in front of her. She thinks you don’t want her.”

“That’s not true.” He cursed and sank down onto the edge of the bed.

“I can just imagine the type of women you’re interviewing and I hope you’ll remember the nanny is not there to look after your…needs. I’m sure the qualifications are totally different,” she said sarcastically, a touch of the green-eyed monster rising sharply.

His gaze made her shiver. “Who I have looking after my needs is none of your concern. But upsetting my niece is.”

She tried to take the high road and remain calm. “How have I upset your niece? She doesn’t know I’m here.”

“I want it to stay that way. She needs time to settle into her new surroundings and forget--”

“Forget! Some people can’t switch off emotions like you can. Some of us have feelings and hearts that need to be nurtured. Some of us actually crave love.”

“Don’t preach to me about love. It’s a dirty four letter word that people use every day yet it means nothing.” He shook his head. “This was a mistake. I shouldn’t have come.” He stood abruptly. “No. It wasn’t, I needed to say this in person so you didn’t have a chance to accuse me of being ‘vague’.” He walked toward her and she stepped back, his anger swirling around her like a thick fog. “Stay away from Hayley.”

Stacey lifted her chin and met his hard gaze. “Why?”

“You’re unsettling her.”

She shook her head, adrenaline pumping hard and fast beneath her ribs. “Bull. I’m unsettling you.” She poked a finger in his rock solid chest. “Why don’t you be a man and admit it. You could have phoned me to tell me to stay away. Why come in person?”

A moment of blinding understanding and awareness flashed between them. A cavern of memories exploded. His gaze focused on her lips, which she wet nervously before announcing, “You should go.”

She saw the light in Tyler’s eyes. She knew that he too, felt the undeniable sexual flare. She made to move, but his hand snapped out to grasp her wrist. She turned back slowly, chest rising and falling as if she couldn’t get enough air. Mirrored in his eyes she saw the same desire she felt surging through her veins.

“God damn you to hell, Stacy Douglas, because that’s where I am when I look at you...”

 The writers I'm tagging are:

Jackie Ashenden - whose new release is super close to hitting Amazon.

house-front-sThanks as always for stopping by. Christmas is fast approaching, and I’m off up to my just built beach house today! Yippee. So may be out of internet range soon.

Take care everyone, and have a safe and happy holiday!
