The WINNER of a copy of Miranda's, Confessions from an Arranged Marriage, is Mary Doherty. I've emailed Mary.

I'm thrilled to introduce historical romance author, Miranda Neville. Miranda grew up in Wiltshire in southwest England. During her misspent youth she devoured the works of Georgette Heyer, Jean Plaidy and any other historical novels she could lay hands on. Luckily for us she turned her love of Regency into a career. Several manuscripts under-the-bed (or deep in the hard drive), HarperCollins bought NEVER RESIST TEMPTATION, published in 2009 by Avon Books. Since then she's completed the four books in the Burgundy Club series. She's embarked on a new writing adventure, a series set in the very beginning of the nineteenth century with a whole new cast of characters. At this point all Miranda can say is that it will be salisbury cathedral c.1825romantic, sexy, and fun.

Welcome downunder Miranda!

Hello Bron, thanks for having me to blog today. I'm pretty excited. I’m going home next week. I am an adult. I have an adult daughter. And I’ve lived far from England, the land of my birth, for three decades. But there’s something about returning to the place I grew up that always seems like going home.

confessions from an65b3b76My dad doesn’t live in my childhood house anymore; after my mother’s death, he moved to a small apartment next door. I won’t be sleeping in my old room, but I’ll be right in the neighborhood, enjoying the same beautiful English countryside. I’ll go for walks along the same lanes and over the same fields where I played as a child. I’ll see people I’ve known all my life.stourhead pantheon

Because I write historical romance set in England, I always manage to fit in a bit of research. Don’t be surprised to find a lot of settings in my books that are close to my childhood home in southwest England. Some important scenes in The Wild Marquis take place in Salisbury. I’ve based a country house on Longleat House. The gardens at Mandeville House, which appears in three of my books, including Confessions from an Arranged Marriage, were partly inspired by Stourhead. And I’m about to start a book with a positive orgy of Wiltshire settings. [CLUE TWENTY-THREE:IT]

It’s not just places that inspire me. One thing I always find time for when I visit is a browse through the old photograph albums, going back to my parents’ wedding. I know I’m dating myself, but the ones from my early childhood are in black and white and there’s something so evocative about those snapshots: long ago birthday parties that only remember through those pictures; my sisters and I in ridiculous clothes and haircuts; our old black lab named Silly; the occasional old boyfriend (what did I ever see in him?). And though my books are set in the early nineteenth century, I almost always find something – a memory, and emotion – that sparks an idea.

What’s your favorite thing to do when you visit the place you grew up? Or, if you never left, what triggers special childhood memories? One lucky commenter will win a copy of Confessions from an Arranged Marriage.

Visit Miranda Neville's website for more details on her, her writing and her books.

Thanks for being my guest today, Miranda, and have a safe trip!

THE BURGUNDY CLUB SERIES

The Rake, the Bookworm, and the Dandy. An ill-assorted trio of noblemen with two things in common: they love books and they are sexy as hell.

CONFESSIONS FROM AN ARRANGED MARRIAGE April 2012

The Burgundy Club, Book Four. The long awaited story of Minerva Montrose and the Marquis of Blakeney.

They couldn't be more different, but there's one thing they agree on. Clever, ambitious Minerva  & the handsome sportsman  Blakeney are the last couple who should ever marry. But some plans are born to go astray...

Hi Miranda

When I went on my first trip to the UK I was inspired by the wonderful Heritage houses too. I can't wait to go back and be inspired some more.

Thanks for a great blog post and hope you get to come Down Under one day.

I grew up in central California and moved to northern Califoria when I was an adult and lived there for 9 years. I loved the coast line of northern California especially the tides pools. I live in the south east now, when visit the beach, I always miss not being able to go look at the tide pools. One memory, which I was able to get an awesome photo of, was when I took my nephews when they were young to the tide pools. A wave came in and got them wet while exploring one pool, which they didn't mind, however I was able to snap the photo before it hit with they right above their heads.

Great memories, Ora. There's something about the sea shore that appeals to children viscerally. I'm no longer a big beach person, but I have happy memories of seaside vacations as a child. How great that you were able to share your treasured experience with your nephews.

Honestly, I always thought that I would still be in Caifornia, so I never thought I would my childhood area. How wrong I was. I love going about may or June time frame. That's when all the flowers are full bloom, before they take them for the flower festival. I love smell of stock, because that really reminds me of home. Which I try to find that, because I would like to capture it her.

When I grew up outside of Philly it was within a very large family with limited resources. We stayed very close to home and didn't get to visit many of the historical places of that great city and it surrounding historical sites. So, when I get a chance to go back it is always with the idea to learn about the area and visit some of the wonderful historical sites.

I think we often miss things about our home areas that other people find exciting. I'm glad you're getting to enjoy Philadelphia's history. I've only visited the city a couple of times but I really enjoyed it.

Hi Bronwen and Miranda, My favorite thing to do when I go home to London where I grew up is to visit some of the places that I totally missed when I was growing up. For some reason, I just took everything for granted. I also venture further afield and go and visit castles and stately homes too. 8)

I was born in Sault Ste. Marie Michigan. I now live in Florida and have for many years. My grandparent had an old farm house on 80 acres. Just last year the farm house was torn down. That makes me so sad. I had such wonderful childhood memories about that house. Some day I hope to go back with my husband and visit my birth place.

Grew up in a suburb of Minneapolis. When I go back, what I hate is the traffic. It wasn't this bad growing up. Alot of places have changed since I grew up there. My grade school was torn down, all the stores in the little shopping area within walking distance have changed. I remember how less complicated life seemed and doctors still made house calls!

Don't you find, Sue, that you really notice changes when you go back after a long time away? House calls? Yes, I remember them!

I grew up in Kansas City, and still live here. The things that remind me most of my childhood is when I drive by the house I grew up in, my brother comes to visit, and I still see the friends I grew up with.

Good morning, everyone

I grew up in quite a few places in NZ and even lived in Ithaca, NY, USA for 3 years when I was a baby while Dad was at Cornell. I've also lived in England for 8 years and travelled a lot! I'm about to head back to USA in July for RWA Conference and I'm so excited! I want to go to Disneyland. I might even get a chance to meet Miranda, are you going?

I love walking down to the beach in my old neighborhood. It is like this incredible nature hike through the forest before coming out on the Puget Sound. The rich smells, the colors, the quality of the sunlight peeping through....

I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania and I love going home in the fall when all the trees are multi colored. I lived in a valley and the color surrounds you and it is the most amazing sight.
Loved the post. Thanks for sharing.
